I love my kitchen sharpie! It's been especially useful since I got the foodsaver.
My related secret kitchen trick is to use masking tape to make labels on containers for freezing (I often initially freeze soup and stocks in Jeni's ice cream containers, and it is almost 90% certain that I'll forget what they were before they make it to the foodsaver.) Masking tape peels off very easily, unlike whatever my partner's mom uses to label things.
