Been to LA (Spago, Mastro's, Border Grille, Doughboys, Griddle Cafe, Yummy Cupcakes, Crumbs) and Vegas (Social House, Simon, Emeril's NO Fish House, Jean Philippe) in the past year, now my sister's interview for grad school (and a much needed week off for me) takes me to NYC for three days.

Looking for good options for approximately 3 good/great meals and 2-3 breakfast/lunch options. Definitely on the list are Babbo for dinner and Thomas Keller's Bouchon for breakfast, and I've already been to Il Mulino and Craft in the past.

I'm not much of a beef eater, but otherwise anything is fair game. So, anyone been to NYC and been blown away by anything particular?

The last time I was in NYC I had good meals at these places:

Breakfast - http://www.goodenoughtoeat.com/
Either of the Kitchenette places -- think there's one in Soho and one in Tribeca

Dinner -

http://www.frankiesspuntino.com/ (ate at '457' in Brooklyn but a buddy who's been to both says the other one in Manhattan is just as good)

http://www.aldilatrattoria.com/ (Brooklyn)

Alain Ducasse is going back to traditionally delicious French bistro food:

Benoit and Goodenoughtoeat both look like great brunch/breakfast options.

I'm thinking L'Atelier de Joel Robuchon or Degustation look like solid dinner options.

Per Se and MASA are still a tad (IE, a TON) out of my budget. Smile

11 Madison Park would be my first choice now - had a great meal there last year and their young chef's a superstar. Modern, but not over-the-top. I think they do brunch as well. On the other hand, if you like modern try WD-50.

Really liked Degustation, especially for the price, but others I know have had mixed experiences. Had a good, not great (and pricy), meal at L'Atelier in Paris but haven't been to the NYC version.

If you're into wine try Cru and/or Veritas (Cru has the better list, Veritas better food).

Masa is wonderful, of course, but really expensive for a very short meal (I was out in ~ 1 hour). I haven't been to Kuruma Zushi (Masa $$) or Sushi Yasuda but both will be on my schedule next trip from everything I've heard.

Le Bernardin's lunch is priced very well and still puts out great food. Could do Jean Georges as well on the formal end.

I guess the no big hunks of beef precludes Peter Luger?

Haven't been to Ducasse or the others mentioned.

You should go to Momofuko! The noodle place. Also, someone whose taste I trust says that the original Jacques Torres in Brooklyn ahs the best croissants she's ever had - even in France
