Well. the Dispatch actually has some interesting reviews today. Years ago, I was scandalized when La Tavola received 5 stars (right after their move). We gave it 3 shots, spending hundreds of dollars, trying to recapture even a fraction of the experiences everyone else seemed to have, to no avail.
Today I noticed JC was reviewing the Refectory (http://www.dispatch.com/live/content/weekender/stories/2008/05/01/9A_JON01.ART_ART_05-01-08_T15_V4A2ARE.html?sid=101), and my first thought was "if they don't get 5 stars when La Tavola did, I will never, ever read this paper again." To be fair, it's kind of a hollow threat, being that I barely read it as it is, and then it's only online. But still. Fortunately, the venerable Ref did get 5 stars.
But that wasn't all! There was a brief re-review of La Tavola (http://www.dispatch.com/live/content/weekender/stories/2008/05/01/9A_OFF01.ART_ART_05-01-08_T17_V4A2BG4.html?sid=101), in which JC appears to have had a similar experience to all of mine.

Interestingly, I have reservations at La Tavola with my mother tonight as a celebration of finishing a particularly hellacious month in the M-ICU and an early mother's day meal as I will be unable to make it home due to clinic hours next week. I will report back my thoughts. Having been to Il Mulino and All' Angelo in the past year, as well as recently going to both Rosendales and M, Tavola has a lot to live up to if it wants to see 5 reviews from myself.  I am certainly looking forward to their take on gnocchi, though.
