I planted my first herb garden last year, and am now surprised to find large bunch of chive blossoms about to bloom. What can I do with them?

Cookie - Welcome to the forums!!

Chive blossoms are delicious - they have a nice, full chive flavor, but they are incredibly beautiful & purple. I used them a lot last year on everything from baked and roasted potatoes to fish, pasta, omelets, and sauteed veggies. Yum! This year I am going to dehydrate some to use in my first RW Sunday Supper.

I have a food dehydrator, so I am going to save them using that, but I would imagine they would freeze well. I would place them on a parchment-lined cookie sheet or cutting board and freeze them over night. By the next morning, you should be able to make the parchment into a funnel and pour them into a zip top bag.

Let us know how it goes!

Here are a few pics and things from last year's crop:

it's a little more difficult to see the chive blossoms here, what with all of the other goodies and all, but they are there:

Thanks for the advice on freezing them, so I won't have to eat them all this weekend.

So far, I've mixed chives and blossoms with some goat cheese. Very pretty and tasty. Sorry, I don't have a camera, so you'll just have to take my word for it.
